Short Biography of Phil Mickelson

Phil "Lefty" Mickelson is the best left handed golfer the game has seen in a long time and possibly the best left handed golfer of all time. Born on June 16th, 1970 in San Diego, California, Mickelson has become a golf legend at just 36 years old. He has won the Masters tournament in 2004 and 2006, as well as the PGA Championship in 2005. In all, he has 29 tour victories, is a five time member of the U.S. Ryder Cup team, a five time member of the U.S. Presidents Cup team, a two time member of the U.S. Walker Cup team and a four time collegiate All-American.

Phil Mickelson seems to have been born to play golf. He was born and raised in San Diego and started swinging a homemade golf club before he was even two years old. Mickelson had an instant passion for golf and when he was three years old, he tried to run away from home because his parents didn't think he was old enough to play golf with his dad at a local course. Phil's attempt to leave home wasn't sucessful but his golf game certainly was.

Mickelson was a golfer from the start as he began hitting golf balls before he was two years old. He stood out in his college career before making the leap to the pros, winning 34 San Diego County junior titles, a US Amateur Title, and three NCAA Championships while he attended Arizona State University.

Mickelson won 39 junior tournaments and went on to win 3 NCAA titles and a US Amateur title before turning pro.

Phil Mickelson's golfing career has been filled with contrasts. For starters, he's right-handed but is one of the few pro golfers who shoots left-handed. Until he won the 2004 Masters Golf Tournament, Mickelson was considered, "the best golfer never to win a Major". While Mickelson has ditched that nickname and has now won three Majors, he still has his share of choke jobs on the golf course. At the 2006 US Open, Mickelson finished second after an embarrassing series of bad shots on the final hole. Despite his odd collapses on the golf course, Phil Mickelson is a favorite to win most tournaments and is still one of the most popular golfers in the world.
