Golf Training Central instruction on golf club selection and golf club loft. Learn how to reduce your handicap by good golf course management.
Club selection is more of an individual thing and this section will only give you a general guide on which club to use. We all have varying distances when it comes to hitting individual clubs.
A professional may hit his driver 350 yards/metres where as we may only be able to hit our drivers 200yards/metres.
Some people don't like using their Woods/Drivers because they can control their Irons better. I recommend you use every club in your bag and if you have difficulty with golf Woods/Drivers seek some lessons from your Club Professional and they'll put you on the right track.
Remember you can only carry 14 Golf Clubs in your bag during a competition.
Loft
The loft of a club is indicated by the number on the heal of the club. ie 9 iron to 3 iron or 1 wood to 7 wood.
The higher the number the higher the loft. The higher the loft means the ball flies higher and goes a shorter distance.
The loft is measured in degree's. If you look at your Driver you should see the degrees written on the heal. This would be between 8 to 10 degrees normally.
Wedges have a higher loft again and generally the degree of loft may be anywhere between 50 to 65 degrees depending on the wedge.
